“Gatsby? What Gatsby?”
I finally saw Baz Luhrmann’s riotous take on Fitzgerald’s American classic The Great Gatsby last night, and I must say it was without a doubt the most vivid and energetic thing I’ve seen all year. For the entirety of its running time, I felt as though my eyes and ears were being boarded and pillaged by a raucous band of neon pirates.
However, I have one little suggestion for Baz Luhrmann and everyone involved with the production of this 2013 update on the original classic. You can find it below.

I think that stupid green light was in every scene.
And the shirt line was wrong! What idiots! Everyone’s quoting this line like it’s the best part of the movie and it was ruined. Made pointless!
“They’re such beautiful shirts,” she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. “It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such — such beautiful shirts before.”
It took me a second to catch on to the suggestion but I laughed out loud as soon as I realized the browser really had loaded the rest of your post.
As always, you’re at you’re best when talking about the things you think are the worst. 😀
That movie robbed you of the price of the ticket and now the cost of the spark notes. The cost was totally worth the payoff. Especially when I was done laughing, I checked to make sure my browser didn’t jump ahead and realized all was as intended.
I must say the green light was at least tied with “Eyes of God” Dr. T. J. Eckleburg. I think they even went over the the eyes of the sign and faded into the green light at one point 🙂
Possibly the best film review I have ever read.
Great review. The book is usually better than the movie, but how often are the Cliff notes better?
